Fascinating article on disorgasmia

Full story here

[I]f we experienced rejection or mistreatment when we were young, then achieving that combination of emotional and sexual intimacy may stir up deep feelings of sadness. If we allow ourselves to be fully present and in touch with our bodies during sex, we may be overwhelmed with sadness….

This may help explain why some people find it easier to be free sexually and experience orgasm in more casual sexual encounters than in close, long-term relationships. Another reason for this may be that they feel less vulnerable in these situations and more in control. When one is loved and valued in the context of a close romantic relationship, it often brings up feelings of vulnerability and challenges a negative self-image the person has long possessed. While this may sound like a positive thing, it can also feel really threatening and leave the person feeling disoriented and separated from their family of origin and the defenses/adaptations made early on. In addition, being committed to another person and depending on him or her for sexual satisfaction may stir up issues around trust and defenses that we may have adopted of being pseudo-independent and self-sufficient.

May my failures be as glorious…

As a survivor of youth orchestra, I doubt any of my performances had anywhere near the enthusiasm these kids demonstrate.

Scriv and the Misbehaving Curly Quotes

Posted May 4th, 2014 by wirefish

I’ve been fighting with Scriv mucking up my curly quotes, especially at the end of sentences after an em-dash.

My workflow for my beta is to export a section from Scriv to a Word (.doc) format.  I never noticed the problem when I was using OpenOffice, but then I was also NOT compiling several scenes into one chapter. I suspect the problem is related to compiling, not so much Word/OpenOffice/NeoOffice.

Whatever.

Here is the fix I found. So far, it seems to be working, for new stuff.

However, for posting to Ashwinder, I’m having to manually fix the things. I search/replace the curlies with straights. For reference, here are the codes for those, if you’re wondering.

  • ”=End curly, or right quote
  • “=Start curly, or left quote
  • "=Straight

Cantata enqueue

Posted May 4th, 2014 by wirefish

Cantata is now enqueue at Ashwinder.

Off to update AO3.

Thanks again to my support team of Mel and the gang, who are far more sane than I am.

I’m suffering butterflies. I didn’t complete my big goal of finishing the thing, but it is far further along and I have a better game plan. To be honest, I keep seeing things I wished I’d done differently–but I read some great advice. To get better at writing novels, you write another.

Repetition.

How many times did I play that Brandenburg concerto when I was practicing for chamber orchestra? Yeah, it’s like that, although I preferred Copland’s Hoedown.
